In Maharashtra, the split in Uddhav Thackeray’s Shiv Sena, as well as in West Bengal, the split in the Trinamool Congress, with more than two-thirds of the MLAs forming an independent group and supporting the central government, had raised the possibility of a major reshuffle in the Union Cabinet. Now this possibility is becoming a reality and it seems that the first step in that direction has been taken. A major reshuffle has begun in the Union Cabinet and a big leader has suddenly resigned. This resignation has been accepted by President Draupadi Murmu.
Who resigned?
Union Minister of State George Kurien has resigned from his ministerial post today. President Draupadi Murmu has accepted the resignation. After the end of the Rajya Sabha term, George Kurien’s resignation was mandatory as the BJP did not nominate him again. Therefore, George Kurien has left his post as per the rules. George Kurien is a lawyer by profession. He has served as the Minister of State for Fisheries, Animal Husbandry and Dairying and Minority Affairs in the third Modi cabinet. He is a long-time member of the Bharatiya Janata Party and has had to resign as his term in the Rajya Sabha has ended.
Will there still be resignations?
According to sources, there are chances of two to three more resignations after George Kurien. Soon, there is talk of a major reshuffle in the Union Cabinet and it is being expressed that some of the rebel MPs from Trinamool along with Shinde’s Shiv Sena, which has recently increased its support to the Central government, may get a place in the Union Cabinet.
Shinde’s Shiv Sena to have a total of three ministerial posts?
Currently, Prataprao Jadhav of Shinde’s Shiv Sena is the Minister of State at the Centre. Along with this ministerial post, it is being reported that Shinde’s Shiv Sena, which now has 13 MPs, will get two ministerial posts – one Union Minister and one Union Minister of State. It is being strongly expressed that Shinde will have a total of three ministerial posts. Notably, there is a strong possibility that the Union Minister’s post will fall on the neck of Shinde’s Shiv Sena’s Lok Sabha leader and MP son Shrikant Shinde, who played a significant role in implementing Operation Tiger. Shrikant Shinde may get a ministerial post in Prime Minister Modi’s cabinet. It is being said that some of the splinter MPs of Trinamool may also be inducted into the cabinet in the same way.
